It’s a new year and heck…it’s a new decade!

2020 is here and there’s money to make as a real estate investor.

A good question at the macro-level every real estate investor should ask themselves is “Where are people moving from and to in the U.S.?”

According to moving company United Van Lines, people are moving out of New Jersey like the children of Israel in the exodus from Egypt.

The state is too cold, taxes are too high and homes are far too expensive. The study went on to show that seniors are the top category filing out of the state in search of sunnier skies and a lower cost of living.

4. Connecticut
5. Kansas
6. Ohio

8. Michigan
9. North Dakota
10. Iowa

You may be wondering where they are going. Here’s the top 10 list of states people are moving to:

1. Idaho
2. Oregon
3. Arizona
4. South Carolina
5. Washington
6. Washington, DC
7. Florida
8. South Dakota
9. North Carolina
10. New Mexico

Millennials are also moving to these destination spots in search of more temperate climates, lower cost of living and higher paying jobs.

You can use this information to make your real estate plans for properties you wish to purchase and rent out.

For instance, even if you focus your real estate investments in your own city, it’s smart to purchase properties where taxes and housing costs are moderate but the communities are nice with plenty of amenities and good school districts, and access to highways and employment is nearby.
